Montessori Methodology
Every material at Adra lives on its own shelf, for its own kind of work. Here's what a child finds on each one.
Sensorial Stimuli
Every child has an inner need to gather sensorial impressions. Scientifically designed equipment helps classify size, dimension, texture, weight and form a solid base for language, mathematics and science.
Language
Preparatory verbal and pre-reading exercises, phonetic learning, analysis of sounds and word building, followed by vocabulary enrichment, refined pronunciation and writing skills.
Arithmetic
Children explore numbers as names of quantities and the symbols that represent them counting, association of symbol to quantity, the decimal system and basic operations.
Social & Culture
History, geography, physical and natural science and general knowledge, alongside a healthy attitude, etiquette and a sense of responsibility.
Primary group
Grade I to III - Age 6+ to 9+ years
The children at Adra preschool start with the great stories. The learning happens with meaningful context and they happen through several mediums and activities and not just one source like a text book. Field trips, physical activities, sports, team thinking are integrated into these, and not done in a siloed manner in bits and pieces.
The children will have choices and can pursue their interests at greater depths. They will get to know the various aspects of Language, Mathematics, The World of Plants ( Botany), The World of Animals (Zoology), "The world of Man' (Anthropology and History), The Visual Arts, Music and The World Itself (Human and Physical Geography).
Culturally the children develop grace and curtesy and social niceties. They are involved in various events and learn the significance and historical importance of festivals
Age 2 to 3
Toddler Program
Our toddler environment is equipped with scientifically designed materials based on the Montessori philosophy. Children are exposed to sensory experiences with textured objects, water, clay, the smell of flowers and food, differentiating sizes and sound.
As children learn to speak in phrases, mentors encourage language through objects, books, story narration and songs, along with the ability to follow verbal instructions. Basic creative work — cutting, gluing, crayons and colour chalk — is part of every day.
Physical activity is integral to gross motor development. Our vast green space with fruit trees allows outdoor activity and gardening with nature.
A simple, flexible daily routine gives orderliness and security. Meal times teach grace and sharing, and quiet corners let a child spend time alone with a book or a play material.
